ARCHITECTURE & ECOLOGY COLLOQUIUM 2027

CALL FOR PAPERS

Submissions Due: January 5, 2027

Hosted by the Miami University Department of Architecture and Interior Design

Submit a PAPER totaling 4,500-words This call for papers invites a reconceptualization of architecture + ecology as more than the integration of architecture and environmental performance. We seek contributions that critically reconsider the relationships among buildings, land, climate, materials, extraction, communities, and more-than-human worlds, asking how ecological thinking might fundamentally transform the boundaries, responsibilities, and practices of architecture.

This call will be a peer review process. If you are interested in being a peer reviewer, please contact us!

“I think buildings should imitate ecological systems. Ecological systems in nature before we had human beings you know interfere with them exist in a state of stasis – they are self-supporting, self-sustaining.”

Ken Yeang

“In nature nothing exists alone.”

Rachel Carson

“Action on behalf of life transforms. Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting. As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.”

Robin Wall Kimmerer
